Firefighters Tackle Fire in Three-Story Apartment Building in Baldwin, NY

June 27, 2025
More than 100 firefighters from 34 companies in Nassau County were involved in the operation.

More than 100 firefighters battled a stubborn blaze in an apartment building in Baldwin Thursday.

Several firefighters were overcome by heat and a police officer was transported for treatment of smoke inhalation, abc7 reported.

"Thank God it's not yesterday with the heat, but they did have to cycle a lot of firefighters in and out. We had firefighters from over 34 companies here from across Nassau County," Chief Michael Uttar of the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office said.

Investigators say the electrical fire appears to have started in an empty space on the top floor.
